
The technology in the workplace has continued to evolve faster than at the rate of a click of a mouse and there are resume skills job seekers shouldn’t overlook. Several years ago all a job seeker’s software skills needed to have is being proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, usage of the computer and ability to use the Internet including having basic search skills. However, all of these skills are still needed but employers take for granted that most job candidates have these skills already. Job candidates should note those skills on their resume, especially if those skills are requested as a requirement on the job posting.
Job seekers should make sure they add in any social networking skills they have as this shows they are currently up-to-date with the latest social technology. Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are perfect sites to include on your resume. However, be sure that these are professional social networking profiles and not profiles that are used for personal use. So avoid sharing pictures of friends and events at the bar last night. Keeping your personal and professional life separate will help you in many more ways than what one would expect. There have been recent news reports about where potential employees or currently employed employees, who are work, will post something degrading about their job on Twitter or another social networking site and their boss will see that post. Guess what happened? The employee was immediately fired. Including social networking links shows that you’re currently keeping up with the times and employers can learn more about your expertise and talents. Incorporating these skills into your resume will help increase your chances of obtain a job.
